Mixtape: Pusha-T – Fear Of God

Pusha-T

Seems like everyone decided that Spring would be the ideal time for them to drop their mixtape. Pusha-T is the latest as he drops, Fear Of God, his highly awaited debut solo mixtape under G.O.O.D. management which features an impressive list of heavy hitters as 50 Cent, Rick Ross, Pharrell and Kanye West all make an apparition on some of his tracks amongs others. I have yet to listen to it from one end to another, but from what I’ve heard so far, everything seems to have been handled properly, which was something I feared as he was taking his distance from his Clipse project.

Mixtape: The Weeknd – House Of Balloons

Posted by Matt | Posted in Music | Posted on 21-03-2011

The Weeknd

Toronto very own Abel Tesfaye and his project, The Weeknd, appeared out of nowhere a couple of months back and took the world by storm… well not really as it went pretty much under the radar, but it is heavily promoted by another Toronto native that goes by the name of Drake, so expect him to go big. Rumours goes that the creative mind behind most of the music of The Weeknd is no one else than 40, the in-house producer of Drake himself, so that might explain this whole cross-promotion thing they got going on.

And after releasing a couple of tracks here and there in the past few months, The Weeknd finally released yesterday its nine-track long debut mixtape, House of Balloons. To be honest, I was never the biggest fan of R&B in general, but this just hit the spot. Grab it below.

03.) Glass Table Girls
04.) The Morning

Mixtape: Childish Gambino – Freaks and Geeks

Posted by Matt | Posted in Music | Posted on 11-03-2011

Childish Gambino

Alright people, this is DOPE as FUCK. Childish Gambino is actor and comedian Donald Glover… yes the funny and lovable black guy from the TV show Community and movie Mystery Team. I think that like everyone else, I knew that the guy was a very funny dude, but I never expected anything of this level in terms of music. To be honest, I only recently discovered that he was actually doing music and didn’t really pay attention up until this morning when someone sent me the video for the title track of his recent tape that dropped this week or something. I’m actually loss at words to describe how much his mixtape, Freaks and Geeks, goes hard, I mean damn, just listen to it already !

The next Drake? maaaaaybe, I mean they share similar background and Freaks and Geeks has that Ransom feeling without the inclusion of Lil Wayne. I’m certainly getting on board right now than later though.

Mixtape: Pac Div – Mania!

Pac Div

The Pac Div boys are finally back with a new mixtape titled Mania! hosted by Don Cannon himself. I have yet to listen to it, but the songs that were leak prior to the release were pretty dope and knowing their record, I’m pretty sure the 14 tracks mixtape is gold. I mean Don’t Mention It was awesome, so Mania! can’t fall too far from the tree… but then again, Lupe’s latest is pretty disappointing so you never know.

Oh and for those wondering, Justene Jaro is the girl on the cover of the mixtape.

Mixtape: Stalley – Lincoln Way Nights (Intelligent Trunk Music)

Stalley

Alright, so the long awaited mixtape of Chicago artist Stalley has finally arrived as promised on February 8th. Lincoln Way Nights (Intelligent Trunk Music) looked great from the drops that were released throughtout of late 2010 to now to promote the tape, but the 16 tracks long mixtape is even better as an ensemble and fully produced by none other than Rashad. Don’t miss out on this very promising and up and comer artist or you’ll bite your fingers for not paying attention sooner in a couple of years.

Mixtape: Shwayze – The W’s

Shwayze

The “Corona & Lime” boys are back at it again. This time the dynamic duo known simply as “Shwayze” releases a mini-album “The W’s”. Laced (no pun intended) with classics for a smokey room, this mini-album does more then keep the embers burning. It sends a “Collect Call” to all their fans as a reminder that you haven’t heard the last of Shwayze & Cisco. Reminscent of their first album “The W’s” is raw and rich with the sounds that made us all fans of Shwayze.

Mixtape: The Streets – Cyberspace & Reds

Posted by Matt | Posted in Music | Posted on 26-01-2011

The Streets

It’s finally here! While we’re all waiting for Mike Skinner’s allegedly last album of The Streets, Computers & Blues, he released [as promised] a mixtape titled Cyberspace & Reds to help us cope with the wait. The mixtape is heavily influenced by dubstep and featuring artists like Wretch 32, Scru Fizzer, Loudmouth Melvin and Kano.

To make things even more interesting, Skinner put up together a little scavenger hunt in order to get access of that said mixtape which makes you go around town looking for stuff to scan with your iPhone, which is all cool and fun, unless you don’t have an iPhone or just plain lazy. They actually even released an app for the hunt called the Skinner Scanner so if you want to be part of the hunt, I’d suggest to go grab it in the app store. If you don’t want to, just grab the mixtape below.

The mixtape though was fully mixed by Nick Catchdubs and features artists from the like of Gucci Mane to Nina Sky, the variety is fairly wide. Get it while it’s hot.

Mixtape/Mp3: M.I.A. – Vicki Leekx

Posted by Ryan | Posted in Music | Posted on 31-12-2010

M.I.A.’s 2010 release Maya seemed to come out more as a focused political piece than an enjoyable… entertaining album, which let some people down, including myself, because her earlier releases, Arular and Kala had some really great, danceable stuff on them. Honestly though, a lot of the material on this mixtape that M.I.A. just dropped for free is sounding like those great moments that introduced us to the Sri Lankan pop bombshell. It’s one long track, not individual ones, which is kind of my pet peave with releases, but I’m willing to hold my tongue this time… It’s free, somewhat-back-to-form M.I.A. material! Here’s an excerpt, thanks to GvsB.
