Video/Mp3: Florence + The Machine – You’ve Got The Love (The XX x Theophilus London Remix)

Theophilus London

I don’t know if you’Ve noticed this trend in the recent years, but the hip-hop world has been paying more and more attention to the indie music for collaborations, remixes and samples. One of the most recent example I could give you is the Kanye West song that was just released this morning sampling Justin Vernon very own Bon Iver song Woods.

Well if you’ve been following Theophilus London for a little while now, you would know that he has always been walking the thin line between the two musical realms. He proves it once again by taking The xx remix of Florence + The Machine, You’ve Got The Love for a spin and releasing footage of the 1996 Olympics as the official music video for it.

Video/Mp3: Florence + The Machine – Heavy In Your Arms

Florence + The Machine

Florence Welsh and her band Florence + The Machine won a tiny spaceman statue yesterday at this year’s edition of the VMAs for Best Art Direction for her videoclip Dog Days Are Over I was actually surprised to see how much recognition she was getting in the United States as I didn’t know she was bumping this much, but then again she was part of the latest Twilight soundtrack, so I guess I shouldn’t be that surprised…

With that said, what better times to unveil a new videoclip than after a win at the VMAs? Taking much of that forward momentum to the release of the visuals of Heavy In Your Arms, she also announced the dates and location for her small US Tour this upcoming Fall where Montreal is not part of it /sadface

Florence + The Machine

As much as the targeted audience for Twilight might be as mainstream as possible, the soundtracks to the movies has been known to hold a diverse and wide range of different artists. And while the soundtrack for the latest installment of the franchise might not have artists as big as the 2nd movie soundtrack had with the Lupe Fiasco, Death Cab For Cutie, Lykke Li and even Thom Yorke… the Eclipse soundtrack still holds it’s own with the help of Muse, Metric, Band of Horses and Florence + The Machine.

Speaking of British act, Florence + The Machine, the latest song offered by the soundtrack is her contribution to it with Heavy In Your Arms proving to be a perfect match for the score of the movie succeeding at capturing the whole mysterious vibe and darkish atmosphere expected out of a vampires and werewolves movie.

Video/Mp3: Florence + The Machine – Cosmic Love

Florence + The Machine

I first talked about Florence Welsh and her band a year ago when she had released the visuals for her single, The Drumming Song that was off her mesmerizing debut album, Lungs, it’s to that point forward that I really started to pay attention to the British artist… Someone could say that a great love story started on that day, even if I wasn’t sure on the whole dancing aspect of the video (an aspect that I grew to like), and it seems like I was not the only one who was caught in her love spell as the pop sensation she emits seems nothing less than contagious.

She recently released the visuals for her latest single, Cosmic Love, capitalizing on the forward momentum she gained with the Dizzy Rascal collaboration that happened at this year edition of the BRIT Awards [around 2 months ago] which spawned a single that almost topped the UK charts upon release.

Video/Mp3: Dizzee Rascal – You’ve Got The Dirtee Love ft. Florence Welsh (Florence + The Machine)

Dizzee Rascal

I stumbled upon some visuals for this Dizzee Rascal & Florence + The Machine mash-up over the weekend and at I thought at first that it was a fan-made mix as the video for it was claimed to be fan-made, but with a little bit more digging, I found out that it was an actual song that Florence Welsh and Dizzee Rascal performed at the 2010 BRIT Awards which in turn spawned a single of the live performance a day after.

To be honest, the 2010 BRIT Awards flew way below my radar this year, much to my lost, and seeing this makes me bite my fingers a little bit, and while this is a little late pass, I think it was too great to not share. You’ve Got The Dirtee Love reached #2 on the UK Singles Chart, which is actually higher than the original song who peaked at #7 so you might have heard it on the radio and what not, but I didn’t because… well who listens to radio nowadays? not me that’s for sure, but I guess I should a little… sometimes ahah.

Florence + The Machine

Here’s the brand new visual for Florence + The Machine latest single and opening track of their debut album, Dogs Days Are Over. Directed by Georgie Greville & Geremy Jasper keeping the video production value to a minimal, but really cashing in on the visual aspect of it and succeeding at creating a visually appealing – and in overall – amazing video.

Retrospective 2009: Best Albums

Posted by Matt | Posted in Music | Posted on 04-01-2010

If last year retrospective was called ‘Laisse Moi Tranquille 2008‘ since it was quite fitting considering the fact that I wanted nothing else from it, 2009 on the other hand was quite different, like I said in my previous post, it shared it’s own of ups and downs but the pace was more stable than 2008… leaving me time to breathe, which was a very good thing.

Anyway, I’ve always found that making lists was a bit egotastic as everyone has different tastes and rarely you will find an universal list for anything, at least a list that is ranked. Which is why, my lists are not actually ranked as I also find it very hard to put music in order, especially when so many good albums came out in 2009.

I highly suggest to check out the albums that I listed down below if you never did or heard of them before. They’re also accompagnied by reviews, a thing that I never (or rarely) did before, something I’ll probably look up to in twenty ten.

download : Phoenix – 1901

download : Mr. Hudson – Time

download : Grizzly Bear – Ready, Able

download : Dirty Projectors – Stillness Is The Move

download : Passion Pit – Little Secrets

ps. I had to make them as images, because I couldn’t format my post in ‘advanced html’ with the use of <div> nor <table> … somehow Tumblr does not allow that.

Video/Mp3: Florence + The Machine – Rabbit Heart (Raise It Up) on Jimmy Kimmel

Posted by Matt | Posted in Music | Posted on 09-11-2009

Florence + The Machine was in town a week ago and while I make the best of my time and wait for her next appearance in Montreal, here’s her second television performance as she takes on Jimmy Kimmel with the song Rabbit Heart (Raise It Up), which is, if you have to know, one of my favorite off her debut album Lungs.

Show: Florence + The Machine @ Le Cabaret Juste Pour Rire (09/01/2009)

Posted by Matt | Posted in Music | Posted on 04-11-2009

Florence Welch and her band, Florence + The Machine, was on my watchlist for awhile now and I was eargerly waiting for her show in Montreal and boy, was I not disappoint. I was expecting a good performance, but not only did she bring her amazing vocals that she is known for, but she also brought her unique british sense of humor, which was somewhat refreshing has she genuinely seemed to enjoy herself up there, on stage and with her band. It was like she didn’t lose the fun/joy of being on stage and seemed like it was her first time, which really adds to a show when you’re in the audience as you see an artist just having fun and not performing to perform if you know what I mean.

Arrived just in time for her performance, but totally missed the opening act, Hey Rosetta! Anyhow, Florence played for a good hour picking songs mostly off her debut album, but also granted us with a B-Side and a well-picked cover that was once the first thing that this side of the ocean heard of them (according to Florence).

Before arriving at the venue, I was expecting a slow kind of show, a more atmospheric type of show, somewhat maybe similar to the atmosphere that listening to the album gives, but to my surprise, the audience and I were welcomed by a more light-hearted, a more upbeat Florence, one of my favorite moment of the night was definitely when she asked us to do a little jumping during one of the song, and as Montreal always do, people in the crowd delivered the merchandise which made Florence really excited about the whole feat and how high people were jumping, even gave the remark that people were not fucking around. Another strong moment of the night were near the end of the night when she handed out flowers to the crowd and made them held up high during You’ve Got The Love which was very awesome to look at (pic at the top for reference).

On a final note, Florence + The Machine promised us that she was going to be back soon and while no date is yet to be confirmed, that date can’t get any sooner. So if you were not at Le Cabaret Juste Pour Rire on Sunday, be sure to secure tickets on her future date with Montreal because it is worth every penny.

hit the jump for anoter fuzzy picture and a song.

special thanks goes to Roxanne who took the few fuzzy shots during the night.
