Posted by Matt | Posted in Music, TV | Posted on 30-09-2010

I don’t watch Jimmy Fallon on a regular basis, so I don’t know if Justin Timberlake was there just for this segment or if he was a guest during the show. Anyway, this said segment is pretty dope! Jimmy Fallon & Justin Timberlake goes through the repertoire of hip-hop from 80s-90s to now and all that while being backed by Late Night resident house band, The Roots.

Mp3: Kanye West – All Of The Lights (Unfinished)

Posted by Matt | Posted in Music | Posted on 30-09-2010

Kanye West

Alright, so I was not going to post this (I swear), but in retribution to the unlicensed leak of the song, Kanye decided to skip this week G.O.O.D. Friday, but yeah, while I can somewhat understand his reaction as the song is unfinished which you can tell by listening to the song as it sound a little bit rough, his reaction is a little bit childish, I mean, he’s letting it go to his head and therefor letting them get the best of him. And you know what? Kanye might be skipping this week G.O.O.D. Friday, but we had two Kanye releases so far and it wasn’t even Friday yet, so yeaaah, I guess it’s not so bad after all right?

Update : Alright, so I got some shit from random people for putting this up, and seems like it is the trend on other blogs who posted the song too. To be honest, I was really not expecting such a strong reaction.

Here’s my whole point of view towards the situation… I started this blog to share music with everyone and that is it. Yes, I would lie if I’d say that I don’t like the traffic, but may it be 100 daily visitors like I used to have or the few thousands that I get now, I’d be on the same conviction posting shit up for them. So no, it’s not about making my website ‘better’ by any means, it’s about sharing with everyone. In fact, for the people complaining about the song being posted here, are you guys even daily visitors or results of a google search? because if you were a daily visitors you would have noticed that you could always find a MP3 attached to every posts we [Above&Beyond] make, no matter what or who it is and that even if it’s licensed or not. It’s just how we roll, I know that not every blog can afford doing so, but being a smaller sized one enables us to do it while still keeping ourselves under the radar.

And frankly, are you going to tell me that every damn mp3s and albums on your computer are legit? I’ll probably get a couple of people saying that they do, but come on, like I said, if you’re a daily visitor here, some of the songs you probably peeped from here are not official singles. I mean, I leaked some of Eminem’s songs that were not official singles back when his album dropped and nobody complained, in fact I probably was the first one to leak Love The Way You Lie; and all that while Not Afraid was still rolling in and Recovery was just about to get on the retail shelves… I didn’t see you complain. I believe that people are just getting on their high horses because Kanye got mad and went on Twitter with it.

And yes, I do believe that Kanye’s reaction is a bit childish because he did let this whole thing get to his head. He should know better… because at the end of the day, his songs will get leaked and his albums will probably be leaked weeks before their release. Did he really think he was above all of this? I wouldn’t say that I’m the biggest supporter of those kind of things, but still, leaks are now a reality in today’s music industry and is fully part of it… and it has been like that since Napster, that’s all I’m saying.

Oh and do you guys remember what statement Drake made when his album leaked? He didn’t get mad or anything, he embraced it.

I gave away free music for years so we’re good over here…just allow it to be the soundtrack to your summer and ENJOY! JUNE 15th!

For the record, I did hear the whole story behind the leaks of how a hacker got his hands on 5 unfinished songs from one of Kanye’s dozen computers, but only this morning… So while I will let this song up, I will not post the three other songs that are probably going to find their way on the internet in the upcoming days/weeks.

Mp3: Kanye West – Lost In The World ft. Bon Iver & Gil Scott-Heron

Kanye West

Well, what do we have here? It’s not even Friday and a new Kanye West joint dropped? Madness! Granted it’s tagged by the folks over YourAudioFix, but they kept it to a minimal, so it’s not too annoying. Lost In The World really has Kanye pushing the enveloppe and really showing his versatility and flair when it comes to music as he took the already auto tune heavy, Bon Iver song, Woods, for a spin and really took it to another level by building something just amazing around it. Plus, the addition of some Gil Scott-Heron spoken words at the closing moments of the song makes it end on a perfect note.

Mp3: Colin Munroe – Bulletproof Monster (La Roux & Nicki Minaj)

Colin Munroe

Fresh from his upcoming project, The Revox Suite, the Canadian artist give us a second sneak peek of what’s to come with the complete makeover and mash up of La Roux’s Bulletproof with Nicki Minaj’s verse that was featured on Monster.

“Bulletproof Monster”, the second installment in The Revox Suite , was a challenging experiment. The acapella of Nicki Minaj’s verse from “Monster” is in a vault somewhere so I was forced to use it with Kanye’s beat underneath, which made adding new vocals tricky. I also had to digitally alter La Roux’s “Bulletproof” melody to make it fit the “Monster” beat. Add my revox to that and it feels like I’ve created a musical Frankenstein. Fitting, I think. Enjoy this “Bulletproof Monster”.

Video/Mp3: Florence + The Machine – You’ve Got The Love (The XX x Theophilus London Remix)

Theophilus London

I don’t know if you’Ve noticed this trend in the recent years, but the hip-hop world has been paying more and more attention to the indie music for collaborations, remixes and samples. One of the most recent example I could give you is the Kanye West song that was just released this morning sampling Justin Vernon very own Bon Iver song Woods.

Well if you’ve been following Theophilus London for a little while now, you would know that he has always been walking the thin line between the two musical realms. He proves it once again by taking The xx remix of Florence + The Machine, You’ve Got The Love for a spin and releasing footage of the 1996 Olympics as the official music video for it.

Black Milk

While the title of the Detroit MC, Black Milk, newest album, Album of the Year, might not be true, it sure is pulling it’s weight. The follow-up of his 2008 effort Tronic was released on September 14th via Fat Beats/Decon and featured fellow Detroit emcees Royce Da 5’9″, Elzhi and Danny Brown.

Earlier today, Black Milk unveiled his new video for the first single of Album of the Year. Enlisting the help of Anthony Garth, who was also seen directing Sound the Alarm and Losing Out, Welcome (Gotta Go) has Black Milk walking around the city of Detroit in a stop-motion manner making this hip-hop video quite out of the ordinary.

Gil Scott-Heron

Speaking of Gil Scott-Heron, he recently released official video of his comeback single and ode to NYC, New York Is Killing Me, at the Museum of Modern Art. Directed by the returning Chris Cunningham, the whole video and song gives major contrast to the other recent Big Apple ode known as Empire State of Mind by the self-proclaimed New York Mayor, Jay-Z.

Mp3: Young Jeezy – Amen (Prod. by Shawty Redd) x Rap Game (Prod. by Shawty Redd)

Young Jeezy

While Young Jeezy’s upcoming album, TM103 might have been pushed back to an indefinite date, he’s still releasing tracks like it was going to drop on September 28th. His latest songs, Amen & Rap Game, were produced by Shawty Redd and sound exactly like what you’d expect a Shawty Redd produced song to sound like. Trap music in full effect, it fits Jeezy like a glove, who seems to be going the if it’s not broken, don’t fix it route once again, which I’m not really sure if it’s a good or a bad thing yet…
