Video: Biffy Clyro – Bubbles x The Captain

Biffy Clyro are a Scottish rock band from Ayrshire, comprising Simon Neil (guitar, lead vocals), James Johnston (bass, vocals) and Ben Johnston (drums, vocals) and they expanded their following significantly with the release of their fourth album, Puzzle in 2007. Two years after, they released Only Revolutions on November 2009 and the success wasn’t stopping them. Hearing them for the first time was kinda like a travel back in 2003 where solid rock bands like Weezer and Jimmy Eat World were still playing on the radio and rock bars. However the sound changed a little but they managed to keep the same flow and writing structure by applying interwoven guitar riffs, unusual time signatures and chord sequences and melodies that often change throughout songs. Even is Simon is the main singer, all three band members contribute to vocal duties.

The band have never actually disclosed exactly where the band name originated. They have a series of stories that they named themselves after a footballer called Biffy Clyro who played for Scottish side Ayr United also admitting that they make up stories about how they are named because they are bored of being asked the same question. I added two music videos from their lastest album so you can heard the difference of style in the music so don’t judge by only one hearing because you might be surprised.

This one is the most energetic and you might hear some weird time signatures at the end but it’s okay because it just makes the song really good and butt kickin’.

This one is straight foward and the addition of brass instruments gives the song a little edge that will reminds us of many bands like Arcade Fire. It also won an NME Award for Best Video in February 2010.

Well here’s something new by one of my favorite British artist with his very own contribution to the upcoming G.O.O.D. Music mixtape entitled G.O.O.D. Ass Mixtape.

No date has been confirmed so far, but rumours has been going on that it might be released in August, but I guess that we’ll have to wait and see.

Mixtape: Lil Wayne vs (500) Days of Summer – (500) Days of Weezy

Posted by Matt | Posted in Music | Posted on 29-07-2010

500 Days of Summer

What impresses me the most about mash-up project like this one, is how people actually come up with the idea of mixing up two completely different thing into one and being assured that it will be amazing at the end, because hell, if you don’t believe in your project in the first place, why even begin right? I mean who in their right mind thinks of Lil Wayne and then about the soundtrack of (500) Days of Summer? and even more, who think about mixing the two together? My Sick Uncle did and it’s really dope.

Anyway, I spotted this over P&P this morning, and listened to it in it’s entirety… get it while it’s hot. You can download it below and stream here right here

Mp3: KiD CuDi – Mojo So Dope

Posted by Matt | Posted in Music | Posted on 29-07-2010

KiD CuDi

Big up to YoungMoneyHD & 2DopeBoyz for releasing this early… although it’s minimally tagged, we can at least get a full glimpse of a song that will be on CuDi’s upcoming album that keeps getting pushed back, which is now set to be released on October 26th, missing the G.O.O.D. Music release date.

About the song itself, it’s more of the same CuDi that we all know and love, and I know I was a little bit complaining about the couple of last leaks were not CuDi-like, being all up tempo’d and light-hearted, well not that I don’t like the song or whatever, but this one might be a little bit too slow paced… I mean give me more songs that are like Heart Of A Lion & CuDi Zone, please? ahah. Don’t get me wrong though, Mojo So Dope, is pretty dope no matter what.

update : tagless version is up.

Mp3: Nina Sky – Only You (Take Me Away) ft. Kidz In The Hall

Posted by Matt | Posted in Music | Posted on 29-07-2010

Nina Sky

One thing I really like, is when one artist that I know and like collaborate with an artist that I’ve never heard before, because it really forces me to listen to the joint, no matter what it is as I’m really giving a chance to anyone who’s already on my radar. So I guess it’s a good thing that Kidz In The Hall collaborated with Nina Sky for their latest track that will be on their upcoming EP, The Other Side, as I might have completely missed what Nina Sky is all about.

The Other Side drops on August 3rd.

Mp3: Mayer Hawthorne – I Need You

Posted by Matt | Posted in Music | Posted on 29-07-2010

Mayer Hawthorne

Mayer Hawthorne unleashed his latest collaboration, this time hooking with with Nottz which resulted in his new song entitled I Need You.

I met Nottz at Nightlife’s Dilla Tribute in L.A. and we just kept in contact. I had always been a fan of Nottz since the 90s. He sent me a bunch of beats and at first I had no idea what to do with any of them, but eventually it hit me. I sang a hook for him on his album as well.
The song is a cover of a cat named Otis Leville which is one of my all time fav soul sides, but relatively unknown 45. I don’t think Nottz even knew it. I actually even made up some of the words because no one could make out what he said in the original. ha!
When Nottz sent me that batch – that particular beat stood out. It had the same chord progression as the Otis Leville, so I just went with it. – Mayer Hawthorne
