Mp3: Miley Cyrus – Liberty Walk

I never thought one day I’ll be talking about Disney’s protege Miley Cyrus but we all change in time…like her puberty burst. Of course Miley is not my favorite artist and it was obvious she won’t stay the little girl in high school singing songs for 9 years olds. I must say, her ”being a woman coming out” was a huge punch in the face and was kinda confused on how I should react to this. Yes it’s sexy but if my sister was 17 and leaves the house like this, I would be ”hey skank, put some clothes on!!”. I’m just saying.

Her lastest album Can’t Be Tamed just got released last week and it’s now 4th in album sales since then. Not bad. So I did a quick listening (yes, kinda suicidal) and I was expecting the same reaction like her new sexy wardrobe. Most of the songs have electro/pop influences like Lady Gaga (duh), Ke$ha and Katy Perry however, even if these songs in general are not made for everybody, the first track Liberty Walk is a decent one.

My final judgement: no good for any types of buyers due to a lack of quality consistence in every songs. Dosen’t worth the 11 bucks but keep the free track.

Video: Marina & The Diamonds – I Am Not a Robot

Posted by Martin | Posted in Music | Posted on 25-06-2010

After watching Matt’s blog about the PS22 Chorus rendition of I Am Not a Robot, I started to make some research about the original version. If course Matt wasn’t able to make a blog about it. ”…A track that I did not post myself upon release due to lack of time or maybe it was just sheer lazyness…” he said. Well I have time and I think it would be sad to not take a minute or two to let people know how this artist is talented…but we still love you Matt.

Marina Lambrini Diamandis, better known by her stage name Marina & The Diamonds, got her fame after being second at the BBC Sound of 2010 poll list. Family Jewels, Marina’s first full length studio album, was released in February 2010 and since then she never stopped going up. Her syle of music is very electro mixing with folk and indie. However it’s her music videos that makes her so special and I Am Not a Robot is one of them. The video is very simple but we just can’t take our eyes away from the screen and the song just makes us all jolly happy…even if the lyrics are not. Many people thought the stage name is a combination of her and a backing band, but in fact ”The Diamonds” are referred to her fans. She explains this on her MySpace page by saying “I’m Marina. You are the diamonds.”

Video: Justin Bieber – Somebody To Love feat. Usher

Okay before I throw some sparkles about this song, I used to not like Justin Bieber. The songs were ”meh” and regardless the talent the kid has, it wasn’t enough for me. When he released the single Never Say Never, I was quite surprised and I started to become open-minded on everything Bieber was bringing. Then something big (in my opinion) came.

Somebody To Love from the second album My World 2.0 is exactly what every artist with potential should do; a cool beat with a solid featuring. As for the music video, Justin’s dance moves are very good (for his age) and Usher’s performance is…well you know how Usher dance anyway. In resume, despite the age range this single should go, I think it’s solid, simple and effective for everyone.

Mp3: Katy Perry – California Gurls ft. Snoop Dogg (Passion Pit Remix)

Posted by Matt | Posted in Music | Posted on 22-06-2010

Katy Perry

As you may already know, I am not one for posting remixes in here… there has been a couple of exceptions here and there and this Passion Pit remix of Katy Perry single, California Gurls is one. I’ve always had my reasons to post remixes, mostly because I thought they sounded better than the original or just plain good, and this one is a mix of the two. I mean, to be quite honest, I don’t really hold Katy Perry’s original version of California Gurls very high up and Passion Pit taking a spin on it is a welcome change for me as they definitely made it more listenable.

With that said, I am off packing boxes as not only is this my first week of vacation, but I will be moving to a new place at the end of the week, so yeah, I might not be that active during a few days.

J. Cole

First thing’s first, I just noticed that there was no space between the . and the Cole in J.Cole’s name… Anyway, J.Cole unveiled the official video for his latest single, Who Dat over at BET yesterday. Directed by BBGun, the video has all the elements to make a good video; a fanfare, little kids and many explosions… all that wrapped in a “streets” decor. J.Cole also announced that he was currently putting the finishing touches on his debut album that will be released somewhere in October.

Rai Knight

I’ve received emails about this and her people even dropped a link of this in the comments of the previous posts I’ve written about this up and comer artist known as Rai Knight. I was running down a list of stuff I wanted to post today and there it was the official video for Rai Knight’s song New New and trust me when I say that me not posting it until now wasn’t bad intentions, but more of a case of ADD as I was always forgetting to do so. Anyway, you better get used to the name, because Rai Knight is about this close to make it in the major leagues, I can feel it, her stars have aligned and I bet that it’s just a matter of time now.

Mp3: Dr. Dre – Under Pressure ft. Jay-Z

Posted by Matt | Posted in Music | Posted on 22-06-2010

Jay-Z & Dr. Dre

A picture came out around April’s fool showing Jay and Dre in the studio next to a console possibly hinting at the fact that they were working together. People got excited, people screamed of joy and some of them even peed a little. Well speculations are now facts as the collaboration between the two surfaced on the internet… Not sure if it’s mastered or not yet, but I can say that the record is heavily… underwhelming……………

So that just goes to show that it doesn’t only take big A-Lister names to make good records… It needs a heart and with all the delay Detox suffered, I’m not really sure if it’s still there. BUT I’ll be the first one to eat my words if Dre’s album ever come out and ends up being amazing.

updated with the no tag version of the song… still not feeling it though.

Video/Mp3: The Roots – Dear God 2.0 x The Day ft. Blu, Phonte & Patty Cash

Posted by Matt | Posted in Music | Posted on 22-06-2010

The Roots

Philadelphie’s very own legendary hip hop group, The Roots unleashed the visuals for their latest single directed by Jason Goldwatch. Dear God 2.0 samples Monster of Folk, a collaboration made possible due to their work on the Late Night show with Jimmy Fallon where they met the band when they performed one night. The song is also found on their ninth and latest studio album, How I Got Over, which was released in stores today, but on iTunes 2 days ago.

If you are not sure if you’re going to get the album or not, let me present to you another song of the album featuring Blu, Phonte and Patty Cash. Keeping the same vibe from the previous released songs, The Day seems to flow effortlessly from the features to the production and lyrics going from start to finish without a single hiccup, much like the rest of the album.

How I Got Over in stores now.
