Video/Mp3: Lil Wayne – Knockout ft. Nicki Minaj

Lil Wayne

Here’s another Lil Wayne video that MTV premiered over the course of the weekend, this time I found an Onsmash version of the video so my Canadian fellows can watch it like the rest of the world. Directed by Jeffrey Panzer and Lil Wayne himself, the video showcase Weezy demonstrating his skills on the guitar while Nicki Minaj shows her two colours hairdo and her generous breast.

And if the sound of the song wasn’t a dead giveaway enough, well the song is taken from Lil Wayne punk-rock effort Rebirth.

Oh, and Free Weezy!

Video/Mp3: Lissie – Bad Romance (Lady GaGa Cover)

Posted by Matt | Posted in Music | Posted on 31-05-2010

Lissie

Well this Bad Romance of Lady GaGa cover was released a little while ago, I remember seeing it on on PMA in early April or something, but I have no real good reason of why I didn’t post it earlier except for my own lazyness… and yeah, I stumbled on a video of her performing a live rendition the cover on her Youtube account which prompted my envy to actually post the whole thing on the blog after all… Better late than never right?

Lissie is an emerging artist from Rock Island, Illinois who received nods and high-fives by Filter, Nylon and many more for her debut EP Why You Runnin’ that was released late last year. She is currently gearing up for the release of her debut album, Catching a Tiger which has, In Sleep, her debut single, which is being on rotation of selected radios as we speak.

Even with all the acclaims she gathered, she was flying a little bit under my radar, but it definitly made a blip with her beautiful rendition of Bad Romance which was probably one of the best move she could have made prior to her debut album release, marketing wise as it really brings a different audience to your music, which is exactly what happened here.

Catching a Tiger is set to be released on June 21st.

Video: Rihanna – Te Amo ft. Laetitia Casta

Posted by Matt | Posted in Music | Posted on 31-05-2010

Rihanna

So Rihanna has been pretty low-key lately, and that even if her third album was released not so long ago… The whole Chris Brown thing probably didn’t help, but I’m hearing more of Chris Brown latest collab mixtape with Tyga than anything that Rihanna is doing… Well here’s her latest single, Te Amo which is basically an English song with a Spanish name filmed in a French castle… gotta love it.

Mp3: M.I.A. – Haters

Posted by Matt | Posted in Music | Posted on 31-05-2010

M.I.A.

Seems like M.I.A. likes to bathe herself into controversy as of late, not only as not only did she become the official poster child for ginger jokes and the topic of the day for Coppercab, but she is now taking on Lynn Hirshchberg of the New York Times amongs other things. Nothing has has been officially heard as of where this record will exactly be featured on, but expect it to make alot of noise.

Mp3: The Bloody Beetroots – New Noise ft. Refused

Posted by Matt | Posted in Music | Posted on 31-05-2010

The Bloody Beetroots

Remember Refused? They were this Swedish hardcore punk band from Umeå formed back in 1991. The band went seperate ways in 1998 after five EPs and three albums, Kerrang! placed their final album, The Shape of Punk To Come at #13 on their 50 Most Important Albums of All Time… so yeah, they do have credentials to their names.

Talking about that last album, Refused will be releasing a reissue of it on June 8 which is set to be a a three-discs set including the full original album, an unreleased live album recorded back in 1998 and the DVD documentary Refused Are Fucking Dead. The deluxe edition will also have this Bloody Beetroot remix of one of their most popular song, New Noise, that you can hear in it’s full Italian remixed glory right here.

Mp3: KiD CuDi – All Talk ft. Chip Tha Ripper & Christian Bale

Posted by Matt | Posted in Music | Posted on 28-05-2010

KiD CuDi

Sampling LCD Soundsystem song, Dance Yrself Clean and using the now infamous yelling of Christian Bale on the set of Terminator 3, CuDi links up with his fellow Chip Tha Ripper for this yet unheard and unreleased song. Not sure of it’s placement as you can actually hear a small tag at the end of the song, but yeah, no talk of what it is for or where it’s going to be on as of yet.

Mp3: Kanye West – Power ft. Dwele

Posted by Matt | Posted in Music | Posted on 28-05-2010

Kanye West

This has been a long time coming, but the day has finally arrived! Kanye West released the first single/leak/track of his upcoming album Good Ass Job and it’s straight fire. Featuring Dwele, the song starts exactly where Flashing Lights ended and I don’t know for you, but I really wasn’t really sure of what Kanye West would actually do on his next album, I mean it could have been something waaaay next level that nobody would have been able to get into, but it’s exactly what I wanted…

The top notch production shows a Kanye West on his best day as S1 lays everything down for an unapologetic Kanye West for what he did, what he is doing or will be doing in the future, just like we really want him to be in the first place as his confidence and arrogance is essentially what make Kanye so Kanye to begin with. I mean how can you hate on a guy who’s sampling a song (21st Century Schizoid Man) of progressive rock emblematic British group King Crimson? I mean really… It’s that awesome and he knows it. (Thanks to Lasse for pointing that out in the comments below)

Power shows a nice progression and marks a transition between the Kanye West during Graduation and the current Kanye West post 808 and I cannot wait to hear more from it.

Good Ass Job is stated to drop somewhere in September.

Mp3: Vampire Weekend – Jonathan Low

Posted by Matt | Posted in Music | Posted on 28-05-2010

Vampire Weekend

Joining Muse and many other artists that I will not be naming here as none of their songs were released so far, Vampire Weekend will be featured on the soundtrack of the upcoming and third movie of the Twilight trilogy. It’s a bit different from what I’m used to when I think of Vampire Weekend, but it’s definitely still pretty decent.
