Mp3: STS – In For The Kill ft. La Roux (Prod. by MPIII)

Posted by Matt | Posted in Music | Posted on 26-02-2010

Sugar Tongue Slim

STS aka Sugar Tongue Slim is an emcee born out of Atlanta, but hailing from the city where it’s always sunny (Philadelphia). I’ve been following him for awhile now… ever since he dropped his debut mixtape, Demand More, back in 2008. Part of the new school of hip-hop, he’s been on the up and up ever since collaborating with established names like DJ Jazzy Jeff, Beanie Seagal, Nas and many more. He’s about to drop a new mixtape entitled Demand More 2 and this is the first leak out of it sampling In For The Kill of British artist La Roux, another out of the box artist to sample, adding her to the list next to Coheed and Cambria that he sampled on his first mixtape.

Be sure to be on the look out for STS as his dynamic and versatile style definitely adds to his already established mass appeal making it impossible for him to not explode on the scene.

“No breaks in my immediate, the future ain’t that far away / I put so much in my rhymes that I might write a bar a day”

BY THE WAY, this is the right way to sample a song, you should take notes Jason Derulo, because that Whatcha Say is a blatant copy/paste, we don’t need another Timbo on our hands…

Music: Prince – Cause and Effect

Posted by Matt | Posted in Music | Posted on 26-02-2010

Prince

This morning, radio station known as 89.3 The Current aired a brand new song of the unique artist known as Prince called Cause and Effect. It features pretty much everything you would expect out of a Prince song including fake crowd noises and enthralling guitar solos out of many things. I think the song is, for now, somewhat ‘exclusive’ to the radio station so no media was released, but they were kind enough to embed on their website. While the song is quite good, I have to say that I cannot wait to see some live performances as it always make his songs sound even better.

Mp3: Foxy Shazam – With An Axe

Posted by Matt | Posted in Music | Posted on 25-02-2010

While Unstoppable is their latest single, With An Axe is definitely my favorite song of their upcoming self-titled album, previously named Au Contraire. The album does not only mark their third one, but it is also their debut major label release. The lead single Wanna Be Angel was released back in 2009 and Unstoppable was released just  month ago and was even featured in the Super Bowl XLIV.

I had the chance to listen to the full album before it’s due date (April 13th)  and not only does it succeed to catch the energy they have while performing live, but their sound comes off more polish than their previous effort. Foxy Shazam is embarking on a North American tour and will be in Montreal in early April at Le Petit Campus and you’ll be sure to see me there.

Mp3: RAAAAAAAANDY & David Sitek – AAAAAAAANGRY

Posted by Matt | Posted in Music | Posted on 25-02-2010

Yes, this is a little bit late, I know… but when I first listened to the song in the beginning of the week, I went ahead and re-watched Aziz Ansari HBO Comedy Special on HBO and then forgot to post it, so there ahah, anyway… Aziz Ansari alter-ego, RAAAAAAAANDY with eight As is releasing a mixtape in collaboration with Dave Sitek of TV On The Radio and the first track out of it is hi-la-rious.

RAAAAAAAANDY with eight As is AAAAAAAANGRY at pretty much all A-list rappers who did not send him back verses for his debut mixtape and shit goes hard! I always knew Aziz knew his hip-hop, but this definitely proves the theory, I mean he probably spend some of his free time on NahRight and what not. And while the tape was delayed, this track gives me a good idea of the direction of the tape, plus you can always catch Aziz on NBC show Parks & Recreation on Thursday.

Video/Mp3: Chiddy Bang – Opposite of Adults

Posted by Matt | Posted in Music | Posted on 24-02-2010

Here’s Chiddy Bang visuals produced by Looseworld for their MGMT ‘inspired’ (sampled) track Opposite of Adults. I first heard of them a year ago when PMA had made a feature post of them and well, it basically hit the internet like a huge tidal wave as this Philly-based act had it lockdown with their perfect mix of energized electronica and hip-hop to their songs. It’s cool to see that they are finally getting more spotlights on themselves as it’s just a matter of time before they go big.

Video/Mp3: Kanye West – Coldest Winter

Posted by Matt | Posted in Music | Posted on 24-02-2010

So colour me surprised when I saw infos about Kanye West releasing a new video for one of his tracks off 808 and even more surprised when it actually dropped as I didn’t think we would witness another single/video out of 808 with all the talks of Kanye’s upcoming album and what not … Anyway, video producer Nabil Elderkin worked the visuals and the result is just stunning, much like all his previous work and here’s what he had to say about the approach he took to work on the video.

“It’s pretty minimalistic. It’s slow and very visual. I just wanted to catch the vibe of the song and not get too literal. Because the lyrics are very close to Kanye and go much deeper than the video goes, obviously hearing the song you know it’s very emotional.”

Mp3: Snoop Dogg – That Tree ft. KiD CuDi

Posted by Matt | Posted in Music | Posted on 24-02-2010

At first sight, Snoop Dogg and CuDi might not have alot of things in common, but when you think about it, both Snoop Dogg & CuDi been doing their thing and not giving a damn about them critics, while their style might be far from similar, I think the main difference is that Snoop Dogg has been there and done that while CuDi is still at the early stage of his career, but I’m pretty sure they will be meeting in the middle as I predict CuDi will become a pillar to the game has much as Snoop was for his generation in his own unique way.

Video/Mp3: Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros – Home

Posted by Matt | Posted in Music | Posted on 24-02-2010

This has been a looooooong time coming, I’ve been meaning to post this for the past weeks, but never actually got around to do so! Heard the song while I was getting my drinks on yesterday night (I know, Mondays are rough) and I guess that it was the extra motivation I needed to make me want to post the song again which I failed to do so once again during the day, but since I was in front of my computer to watch the latest episode of Lost I thought it was the perfect time to post this stuff since I had some free time.

Alright, enough small talk, let’s get on with the main course… so this is Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros and before a couple of weeks ago, I didn’t know anything about them, someone sent it to me and I completely loved it, it might be somewhat of a late pass, but life’s been pretty hectic as of late, but then again this was released back in November, so I guess I just missed it ahah.

Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros is led by Alex Ebert who is also the singer of the power pop group Ima Robot. Their debut album, Up From Below, was released back in July 2009 via Vagrant Records and they have been releasing material ever since. Even getting a notice on the largest poll in the world, Australian Triple J Hottest 100 tracks of 2009 countdown for their single Home.
